Summer Nights

Brody is the ultimate helper and these pictures say it all, especially how much he loves his daddy. He definitely is his shadow. LOL.

Pickles, Projects & Potty Training

First the Pickles...... This was such a fun Saturday for us. More canning, more canning, more canning. Our cucumber plants in our garden have just gone crazy. I thought for sure I would have pumpkins coming out my ears, but that unfortunately is not the case. But man, the cucumbers are everywhere. Rick, Brody and I bottled dill pickles and his Grandma Mangum's sweet pickles and I have to say that they are quite delicious. Next, the potty-training. Okay. I'm sure all of you have some good hints on how to accomplish the fun task of potty-training, so give me some help. This morning, Brody woke up with the desire to wear "unners" So, I've heard that if they show interest, you should take advantage and encourage them. So, I broke out the "unners." Well, by 10:00 and three "unners" later, I was finished and we were back to diapers. He has shown interest since, but I'm not sure I'm interested. His little heinie does look cute in "unners." LOL.
Moving on to the projects, more canning. This time, more jam. Brody is right in the the thick of things, pouring and helping and I just love it. We do get a little messy, but oh, well. Our next project was banana bread. Another one of my favorites.

This has been Rick's project. He has been working so hard on this chicken coop and finally our chickens have a home. He did such a good job. The only thing left is the paint. The chickens were getting so big and stinky in our garage, that we needed to get them out. So, unfortunately we haven't had time to paint it, but we will.

Our chickens aren't quite big enough to let roam the yard, which is kind of sad because the invasion of the grasshoppers has begun. They are EVERYWHERE. It really is disgusting and I'm not sure the rest of my garden will make it. Hopefully I will still have tomatoes because I think I might attempt to can some salsa.

Home Alone

Have you ever just had four days to do whatever you wanted? Well, with the exception of a day of work, when Rick and Brody were gone to the Reunion, that is what I had. I made a huge long list of everything that I was going to accomplish and of course my list was way too long, but I did get a lot done. I got caught up with all my transcripts. I tackled the task of painting the entire railing all around our wrap around porch. I even got some fun cute projects done that I have been putting off for a while.

This is just a cork board that I covered with batting and material, stapled it together with a staple gun, ran the ribbons across and attached the buttons. Cute with Christmas fabric for Christmas cards, too.

These blocks were actually a Enrichment activity that I signed up for but couldn't attend . Super Easy. By the time Sunday rolled around, I was so ready for my little family to come home. It was nice to listen to Fast and Testimony Meeting, but I really missed my family. That afternoon, I had just let my dogs outside and Oberon, my usually quiet dog, was going crazy with the barking. Well, I came downstairs to check on them and they were standing on the front porch barking at something behind Brody's bin of toys on the porch. I opened up the sliding glass door and it sounded like a bunch of insects humming outside. I looked over and it was a rattlesnake!! I yelled at my dogs to get in the house and behind that bin of toys was a Mohave Greenback (which I later found out are pretty serious snakes). Anyway, I ended up calling my home teacher and he came up and chopped its head off with a shovel. I was a little freaked out. While I was waiting for my HT, I called my sister in Utah. My crazy little niece's suggestion was to get a shotgun and shoot it. Thanks Ky! LOL but the only gun we own in this house is a glue gun. Let's just say I was glad that Rick was coming home the next day. I always look forward to alone time and I was super productive, but I know I missed out on a great reunion and I really missed my family. Anyway, here are a few of the scrapbooking pages I completed while they were gone. Enjoy!

Daddy and Brody Weekend

Time just gets away from me, so here I am playing catch up again.

A couple weekends ago, the Mangum Family had a reunion up in Utah. Rick and I were initially not planning on going and then at the last minute, Rick decided to go with Brody to help with driving on the return trip with his mom. Well, I ended up staying behind due to work and teaching my aerobics class, taking care of the garden and the chickens -- yes, we got them -- so Rick and Brody had their own weekend together. From what I heard and from the great scenery, I know I missed out. Here are some fun pics.
